Songfacts®:

  • The title track of The Coral's eighth full-length studio album, this is also the oldest song on the record. Frontman James Skelly told Drowned in Sound: "We messed around with it on Butterfly House, but could never get the right arrangement."
  • The lyrics on the Distance Inbetween record are dark. James Skelly explained to Mojo: "The Distance Inbetween's the unknown, the abyss. The idea was, it's like Ian Curtis' lyrics: Apocalyptic, but domestic, know what I mean? It's almost like a nuclear bomb has gone, but you are in the kitchen."
