Songfacts®:

  • This song seems to have a political message, one of anti-imperialism, though it doesn't do so explicitly.
  • The 3 lead singers had a less androgynous, more conventional look to them for this song. The song itself is mainly notable for being The Human League's last one to chart in the United States. >>>

  • Ramon The Genius from Shangri LaThe song was originally called "Hung Like a Bee" and it was about having a very small penis, but the suits thought it was stupid so they changed it to Heart Like a Wheel which doesn't make sense because if your heart spun you'd be dead.
  • Clare from London, United KingdomThis song is such a good sound and the lyrics definitely have a religious message but the song is written in metaphors, the song is basically about the world turning away from what's real and human to what isn't.
It starts with the promised land, moves onto God's word and spreading it, then onto how we're killing ourselves with anger, blood and fear.
We can't keep fooling each other with our steely cold heartedness, all we need is love - Wake Up!
  • Matt from Gadsden, AlThis is not the last hit for the Human League. Tell Me When hit #31 (#9 Top 40 Mainstream) in 1995
