Songfacts®:

  • In the early years of Nirvana, they played some shows with The Jesus Lizard, and in 1993 the two bands issued a "split single" via the Touch and Go label, with The Jesus Lizard supplying the song "Puss" and Nirvana contributing the flip side, "Oh, the Guilt." In the UK, the single did very well, rising to #12.

Both tracks were produced by Steve Albini.
  • This song is an angry takedown of a guy lead singer David Yow wanted to beat the crap out of. In our interview with Yow, he explained: "That is mostly about this guy I knew in Chicago, and I should say his name, but I'm not going to. He's kind of a puss - pushed a girl down the stairs at a club in Chicago. The impetus of the song is him doing that."
  • The "Get her out of the truck" line in this song was inspired by a scene in the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre when Leatherface has a girl in a bag on the floor of his truck and is poking her with a stick.
