Songfacts®:

  • Frontman Brandon Flowers told The Quietus that for this song he was trying to write a song in the style of the Arctic Monkeys. However it turned out nothing like them. Instead it became, "this big boisterous thing."
  • The cover artwork of Sam's Town features mixed-race R&B singer-writer Felice LaZae, who was working in a Las Vegas studio when spotted by Killers photographer Anton Corbijn. She told Q magazine: "It's supposed to show what real beauty looks like in America."
  • The album takes its name from Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling Hall, a hotel-casino that Brandon Flowers used to live across the street from in Vegas. He told NME: "The way The Beatles had landmarks like Abbey Road and 'Penny Lane'; I wanted to do that for Las Vegas. We're proud of where we're from and it marks a period of our lives."
