  • The Last Dinner Party are a British indie rock band from London. Abigail Morris (vocals), Lizzie Mayland (vocals, guitar), and Georgia Davies (bass) met in 2020 in London before starting university and decided to form a band after attending gigs together in London. (Morris and Davies studied at King's College London; Mayland at Goldsmiths).

"We would go to gigs all the time, researching and thinking about starting a band," Morris explained to Billboard. "We were very intellectual about it for a long time."
  • A mutual friend recommended Emily Roberts as a guitarist to Morris, then they brought in Aurora Nischevi (keyboard, vocals). Both came from more classical backgrounds and studied at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Emily Roberts holds a first class jazz degree from the Guildhall School.
  • Their original name, The Dinner Party, was born from the wild notion of an epic, hedonistic soirée where guests gathered to revel in a feast of debauchery. They later changed their name to The Last Dinner Party to avoid confusion with US musician Kamasi Washington's Dinner Party hip-hop supergroup.
  • The band performed live for the first time at The George in London in November 2021. They spent the following year fleshing out their sound and building word-of-mouth support in pubs and small venues around London.
  • In July 2022, they opened for Courtney Barnet, Sam Fender, and The Rolling Stones at Hyde Park.

"I think they wanted someone small and unknown to start the day," Morris told Under The Radar. "Our manager asked if we'd be up for it, and we thought they were joking and were like, 'F--k off, as if that's going to happen.' I don't think we've fully processed it yet, but when the time came, I was proud of us because I thought we'd all be having meltdowns or hiding in the toilets. But we stayed calm and collected at least until we came off stage and then we screamed our heads off, ha ha ha."
  • The Last Dinner Party signed with Island Records in May 2022 and released their debut single, "Nothing Matters," 11 months later. By the summer, it had become a radio hit in America, reaching the Top 10 of Billboard's Adult Alternative Airplay chart.
  • The Last Dinner Party won BBC Radio 1's Sound Of 2024, an annual BBC poll of music critics and industry figures to find the most promising new music talent. Previous winners include Adele, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith and PinkPantheress. The Last Dinner Party were the first guitar band to win since Haim in 2013.
  • When Georgia Davies met Abigail Morris and Lizzie Mayland at King's College London, she had no intention of becoming a professional musician. Davies wanted to be a professor and academic specializing in English literature. She told CBS mornings she just played music "for a bit of a laugh."
