Songfacts®:

  • Raconteurs drummer Patrick Keeler told Uncut the story of this song:

"I've gotten to witness Jack's songs all differently, from being in a crowd or sharing the stage or in the studio. Obviously I have a personal connection to 'Blue Veins,' because I play drums on it, but I always liked it when Jack would sometimes not do stuff on guitar. On that song in the studio who played piano. I liked a lot of Jack's ballads.

Live, it turned into an insane, long guitar version that was just epic."
