  • The Soup Dragons are looking for answers on this track, which considers our place in the universe. In a Songfacts interview with lead singer Sean Dickson, who wrote it, he said: "'Mother Universe' is about trying to figure out religion in your head as a young man. Why are we here? Who put us here? Do you believe it? How do they know? Could they be right? Could they be wrong? Questions, questions, questions."
  • This was the first single from the Lovegod album. It topped out at #94 in the UK, but the next Soup Dragons single, "I'm Free" was a huge hit in Europe. "Mother Universe" was then remixed with elements of "I'm Free," including a gospel choir and Jamaican vocal inflections. This version fared a little better, reaching #26 in the UK.
