  • As the son of an entrepreneur, Tano Jones learned the value of fiscal responsibility and hard work, but he also came to the conclusion that love is most important - it's a sentiment The Beatles expressed as well. In "Love Is Free," he makes this point.

Soon you would find that dollar signs
Don't mean a thing when it comes to love
    Love is Free
  • Here are some things that are free that Tano Jones recommends:

Witnessing the birth of a child.
Falling asleep on a beach, waking up and watching the sunrise.
A cold beer on a hot day (OK, that one does have a cost).
Feeling your feet in the grass.
Appreciating great water (he's from Michigan, surrounded by the Great Lakes)

"'Love Is Free' is about appreciating what you have," he said on the Songfacts Podcast. "It's an appreciation, a passion, a love. And the ability to recognize the simple beauty that's in front of us."
  • Tano Jones wrote the song about four years before it was released in 2022. During that time, his 25-year marriage ended, giving him a new perspective on the song.
  • Jones produced the song with Andy Patalan of the band Sponge. It was included on the Tano Jones Revelry album Spinning North in 2024.
