Songfacts®:

  • Some fans wondered if 'Ye and Hov had gone Heavy Metal when they saw the name of this song on the track listing. However, despite sharing a title with one of Guns N' Roses' best known tunes, the only connection this shares with the Californian rockers is that Jay starts off his first verse by describing himself as the "black Axl Rose."
  • Lyrically, this confession to various woes finds West and Jay-Z spitting rhymes about black-on-black crime and drug dealing.
  • Swizz Beatz produced the song and his vocals can also be heard on the song's hook. The New Yorker has worked with Jay on several previous occasions including his 2009 single "On To The Next One," which he also both produced and sung on.
  • Jay gives a shout out to the late Michael Jackson when he spits, "Rest in peace to the leader of the Jackson 5."
