Songfacts®:

  • After starting on their fifth album, Back in Love City, in west London, The Vaccines decamped to Sonic Ranch studio in El Paso, Texas, to lay down the tracks. On "Wanderlust," frontman Justin Young sings of escape and also being made to feel amazing by somebody else. "It has this big expansive, almost cinematic feel," he told The Sun, "but it was written on my sofa in my home dreaming of being anywhere but there."
  • The Sonic Ranch studio lies close to Mexico and the controversial border wall that formed a key part of Donald Trump's 2016 election campaign. Despite "Wanderlust" containing lyrics that say "open up your borders" and "help me build a great big concrete wall," Young noted to NME that they were pure coincidence and predated "even knowing we were going to record in Texas."
