  • The Weeknd is a longtime fan of the animated series American Dad and in 2020 they gave him an opportunity to co-write and appear in an episode. The plotline for Starboy Is Born, which first aired on May 4, 2020, involves Jeff trying to trick the Toronto musician into sleeping with Hayley. As she tries to seduce him, The Weeknd performs this song, in which he confesses the truth behind his hedonistic persona.

Underneath the lies and the big talk, I've been waiting for a wife
Never watched porn, never did drugs, 'cause I'm terrified

The Weeknd told Variety it had been a longtime dream to parody his playboy reputation. "I always wanted to play a character that was the opposite of the public's perception of me - and of course make fun of myself," he said. "Once I was given the opportunity I took complete advantage. [Episode co-writer] Joel Hurwitz believed in the vision and he helped execute it beautifully."
  • The Weeknd wrote the song with Asa Taccone from Electric Guest, who also co-penned and co-produced Portugal. The Man's hit single "Feel It Still." His older brother, Jorma, is a member of the comedy group The Lonely Island and Taccone has composed music for them.
