Songfacts®:

  • This is a song about a Womble who thinks he's Superman! Whereas Superman cleans up the neighborhood and the Universe of the bad guys, Super Womble clears up, er, rubbish from the rooftops! Having said that, the song includes a passable guitar solo. Nobody ever said Mike Batt and friends couldn't play.

"Super Womble" was released on the CBS label in August 1975 backed by "The Orinico Kid." >>>

  • The folk-rock group Steeleye Span dressed as the Wombles to perform "Super Womble" on Top Of The Pops because Mike Batt (Womble-in-chief) was short of musicians for the show. (Batt was working on "All Around My Hat" with Steeleye Span, at the time the "Superwomble" single was released).

According to Steeleye Span bassist Rick Kemp, who was Uncle Bulgaria, people are more impressed that he was a Womble than all the other work he's done.
