  • Thekidszn is William Maxwell McGee, a rapper from Rochester, New York, who writes confessional songs about heartbreak, bad relationships and self-doubt. His melodic emo rap moves between trap, pop-rap and the occasional punk or Latin detour. Working independently since his early teens, he built a following of millions through SoundCloud, TikTok and streaming playlists without a major label behind him.
  • His first full release, the five-song Elevated EP, came out on April 24, 2020, on his own Thekidszn Records label. He was 16 at the time. "Leave Me Alone," the opening track of Elevated, began catching on in the summer of 2020 and became his breakthrough track.
  • In March 2021, McGee posted a TikTok of himself and his mother hearing one of his songs on the radio for the first time. That year he was streamed more than 50 million times after blowing up on social media.
  • His name and melodic, heartbroken style mean he is often confused with Australian star The Kid Laroi. The confusion was common enough that a My My magazine story was headlined "Not The Kid LAROI: who Thekidszn is." Beatmakers even sell "Thekidszn x The Kid LAROI" type beats on YouTube.
  • After years of putting out his own music, McGee moved to Sana / Listen To The Kids, distributed by Santa Anna, in 2025. By then he was based in Los Angeles, where he recorded a song called "I HATE LA GIRLS."
  • His commercial breakthrough came slowly. "Impulsive," released on February 20, 2026, didn't reach the Spotify charts until October. It then debuted at #82 on the UK Singles Chart dated October 22, 2026, giving him his first UK chart entry.
