Songfacts®:

  • "Almost" finds Thomas Rhett recalling some memories of some pivotal decisions from his younger days:

I almost got that tattoo on my back that said "Delta Chi"
Almost didn't visit Granddad a week before he died
I almost didn't kiss that girl, turned out to be my wife
Guess someone else had something else in mind

Thomas Rhett married Lauren in 2012. He previously reflected on what would have happened if they had wed other people on his Life Changes track "Marry Me."
  • The song finds Rhett recalling events he thought were mistakes that turned out to work in his favor, or things that didn't work out but led him to where he is today. The singer explained to Taste of Country that he is looking back and saying, "'I'm so glad that all these things either did or did not pan out, because if they had gone even remotely left or remotely right, who knows where you'd be today."
  • "Almost" was the last song Rhett wrote for Center Point Road and it closes the set. He penned the tune with Jesse Frasure, Ashley Gorley and Amy Wadge. Rhett told Billboard:

"I love the sentiment of the word 'almost.' I almost did it or almost didn't do it, and it shaped me to the person I am today. I think it's a really cool way to close out the record."
