Songfacts®:

  • Jubilee Road is a concept album about Tom Odell's time spent living on a London terraced street with his girlfriend. The local characters that inspired him include the whisky-soaked gamblers who frequented the betting shop at the end of the road.
  • Odell explained to The Sun that he spent some time in the betting shop as he was fascinated by how all the gambling worked. One person he met there told the singer, "You know Tom, a true gambling addict doesn't play to win, he plays to lose."

Odell was intrigued by the comment so he came up with this tale of a man attempting to win back his lady love by one last bet.
