Troye Sivan

  • June 5, 1995
  • Troye Sivan is a South African-born, Australian-raised singer-songwriter and actor whose slick, club-ready pop turns queer desire and loneliness into something confessional. A former YouTube star, he went from a teenage turn as young Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) to Grammy-nominated dance-pop, building a reputation as one of pop's most visually daring performers.
  • Sivan was born in Johannesburg to an entrepreneur and real estate agent father and fashion model mother. He moved with his parents and his three siblings to Australia when he was two.
  • In Perth, he sang at the Channel Seven Perth Telethon, reached the grand finals of StarSearch 2007, and released his first independent EP, Dare to Dream, as a child.
  • Sivan portrayed the younger Wolverine in the 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, and at age 14, played the title role in a film adaptation of the coming-of-age novel Spud, starring opposite John Cleese. He also took to the stage locally, playing the boy in a Perth production of Waiting for Godot opposite Ian McKellen.
  • EMI Australia signed Sivan on June 5, 2013, on his 18th birthday. The deal was kept under wraps and stayed a secret for a full year while he continued building his digital audience. His debut EMI EP RXYE debuted at #1 on iTunes in over 55 countries.
  • His third album, Something to Give Each Other, earned Sivan his first three Grammy nominations: "Rush" was nominated for Best Dance Pop Recording and Best Music Video, while "Got Me Started" scored a nod for Best Dance Pop Recording the following year. "Got Me Started" also inspired a Saturday Night Live spoof featuring Timothée Chalamet and Boygenius.
