Songfacts®:

  • This is the opening track of rapper Big Sean and singer Jhené Aiko's debut record Twenty88. The duo previously worked together on several occasions, including Sean's 2012 Detroit mixtape track "I'm Gonna Be," "Beware" from the Detroit rapper's Hall of Fame, and "I Know" and "Win Some, Lose Some" from Sean's 2015 album, Dark Sky Paradise.

The couple started dating around the time the album was released and had a son together in 2022.
  • Aiko told Flaunt that she believes it was the right time for a male and female duo to talk realistically about the ups and downs of modern-day romance. "Music now doesn't really cater to the feelings of a real relationship," she commented to the magazine. "It's all about trapping and bragging. I feel like this project is something that's needed right now. The whole idea of the man and woman duet, especially a whole project, is just good for people to see. That duality is a perfect combination."
  • The song was produced by Detroit native Key Wane with help from up-and-coming beatmaker Cam O'bi. Wane also helmed the Twenty88 tracks "On the Way" and "London Bridge." He told MTV News: "That was around the same time I brought "On the Way" through. There's a young dude named Cam [O'bi], he was bringing about crazy sounds - little sample s--t that he was making, with his voice on it. Sean was like, 'This s--t sweet!' So I chopped it up, I threw my drums on it, and then n---as was vibing with that for a minute."
