  • This song finds Hoge recounting the advice his former musician father has given to him. "My father had grown up wanting to be a musician when he was younger," he recalled to Radio.com. "Met my mom and that's what he did for a living. When they settled down and started a family, he got a 'real job' and started to do those things. When you start being in a band your parents think that it's cute. When you quit school to be in a band it's not as cute anymore. It starts to be a much more serious thing."

"The idea, if you're going into this business thinking you're going to be a rock star and fly on private planes and have yachts and vacation in the French Riviera with your 15 girlfriends, it's a pretty unattainable and maddening way to go about this," Hoge added. "He wanted me to always understand that you can do this, but it's a really hard way to try and make a living, and I think it's totally true."
