Open Road

Album: Number The Brave (1981)

Songfacts®:

  • Co-written by then guitarists Andy Powell and Laurie Wisefield with drummer Steve Upton, "Open Road" is the fifth track on the Number The Brave album wherein it runs to 5 minutes 21 seconds. It is arguable that more than any other Wishbone Ash number, "Open Road" illustrates the superiority of these melodic rock giants as a live act. The version on the studio album is at best insipid, but the live version recorded at the Marquee on February 23, 1983 contains some blistering axework by Laurie Wisefield which helped make it a truly memorable concert. >>>
