Songfacts®:

  • This was a late addition to VHS. It was the last song that X Ambassadors wrote for the record, about a week before they put the album up for pre-order.
  • Vocalist Sam Harris explained the song's meaning in a track-by-track commentary: "It's a song about lifting up the people you care about no matter what, even when somebody you love doesn't want your help and pushes you back, pushes you away. No matter what, I'm kind of just saying, no matter what I'm going to be there for you. Even if I don't like it sometimes I'm going to be there for you because that's what you do."
  • Harris assures the person he is addressing here that he will lift them up, "Til you're light as a feather." A feather is one of the lightest natural objects and the phrase "as light as a feather" is used to indicate something of little weight or pressure. Artists that have recorded songs with the title "Light as a Feather" include Norah Jones and Katy B.
