Songfacts®:

Partridge recalled on a Reddit AMA: "Every time one of us opened our mouths to sing, the fly would head straight for us, and we couldn't sing for laughing! You can definitely hear it on there. We were trying to keep straight faces, but the kamikaze fly made it very difficult."
