Songfacts®:

  • This song originated when Yungblud woke up one morning and sat in bed reading what people were saying about him on the net. Rather than letting all the negativity get to him, he determined not to be sad, but to get up and face the world.
  • Yungblud wrote the words for "Don't Feel Like Feeling Sad Today" to help himself stand up. "To me this song is what happiness feels like," he said. "Happiness with a bite. A defiant sort of happiness. Looking at yourself in the mirror and telling the sadness to f--k off and come back another day."

The singer added that his dream for the song is for it to help others as well. "No matter what they're going through, they can put this on and feel a bit stronger today."
  • Yungblud co-wrote and co-produced "Don't Feel Like Feeling Sad Today" with Matt Schwartz. Other occasions Schwartz has worked with the English rocker include "Weird!," "11 Minutes," and "Patience."

Glam-pop singer-songwriter Brasko also co-wrote the song and Chris Greatti co-produced it. Greatti co-produced every track on Yungblud's Weird! album.
  • Yungblud's touring and promotional photographer, Tom Pallant, directed the video. He filmed the chaotic clip in London's Southbank after Yungblud issued an open invitation for fans to be part of the shoot. The singer suggested they bring along a water pistol, and hordes of them took over the location. While Yungblud performed the song on a flatbed truck, fans drenched each other with water until police shut the filming down because of overcrowding.
  • Yungblud shared "Don't Feel Like Feeling Sad Today (Sad Version)" on July 14, 2022. The downbeat rendition sees the singer strumming an acoustic guitar in a black-and-white video.
