• "Good Girls & Cowgirls" plays off the classic English nursery rhyme "What Are Little Boys Made Of?" In the original rhyme, little girls are made of "sugar and spice and everything nice." Zach Top borrows that phrase for his "good girls," then gives it a decidedly less wholesome Western makeover: "cowgirls are made of whiskey and ice."
• The verses build a playful contrast between two types of women. The "good girl" is the one you can take home to meet your mother, bring along to church, and count on to keep things peaceful. If you prefer someone on the wild side, the cowgirl will "do things to make you lose your mind," but she's also the one who'll stay right by your side when the chips are down.
  
  "It's a goofy, fun song, the dichotomy between what you would call a 'good girl' and a little more the wild side of women," Top told Rolling Stone.
• Top sneaked a quick callback into the first line: "You sound like the kinda woman I like" echoes the title of his 2024 track "The Kinda Woman I Like," from his debut album Cold Beer & Country Music.
• The track fits right into Top's back-to-basics approach to music. In his view, modern production often strips out the soul, whereas country fans are hungry for music that feels "a little more raw and real again." • Top released "Good Girls & Cowgirls" on August 21, 2026, as part of a double-single alongside the ballad "Other Side of Hurtin'." Issued through his Leo33 label, the release was framed as an old-school A-side/B-side "2-Pack," a nostalgic nod to the vinyl days when buying a single got you two tracks for the price of one rather than selecting from an infinite digital buffet.
• Top co-wrote "Good Girls & Cowgirls" with Carson Chamberlain and Tim Nichols. The same songwriting trio penned "Other Side of Hurtin'" as well as Top's breakthrough hit, "I Never Lie."
