  • Zayde Wolf makes a lot of high-energy music that often gets licensed for video games, TV shows and promos. "Holy Water" has that energy, but also more of a storyline as he takes the role of a man frayed at the seams, ready to metaphorically atone for his sins. To do so, he'll need the "holy water" of his lover.

"It's not a motivational-type song," Wolf said on the Songfacts Podcast. "It's a little more grungy and sexy, which is a thing that I hadn't done on the album. I think that's why it came out: because I let all the parameters go away."

"That song I think is really special," he added. "It hits in a different way than some of the other songs, but it was written with such an honesty and purity that came out during that time, which I think really means something. It means something different from the other songs."
  • Zayde Wolf thought he was done with the Neon Blood Type album when his PR team asked him to write another song for an Apple exclusive. He wasn't into it at first, but then decided it might be a good idea after all. He got a flash of inspiration and eight hours later had "Holy Water" written and recorded.
  • The music video features dancing by Lauren Renteria and Marlon Pelayo, who interpret the song visually, showing the push and pull of a relationship.
