Songfacts®:

  • Musically, this trippy track drew inspiration from a psychedelic-pop classic, "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds." Zayn was listening to lots of John Lennon when he came across the famous Beatles song, which gave him the idea.

In accordance with the title, the whole album has a philosophical bent. "I wanted it to be almost like a brainstorm," he told NME. "It's just music and it's just whatever you're feeling at that moment in time."
  • In this song, Zayn knows he's dealing with a tainted love, but he still can't resist, as he's totally beholden to the girl who has his heart. Zayn is far from the first to play the fool; other artists to use the "fool" theme in songs are Whitesnake, The Doobie Brothers, and Jamiroquai.
  • Roots drummer Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson did the stick work on this song.
