It Came Out Of The Sky

  • Oh, it came out of the sky, landed just a little south of Moline
Jody fell out of his tractor, couldn't believe what he seen
Laid on the ground and shook, fearin' for his life
Then he ran all the way to town screamin' it came out of the sky

Well, a crowd gathered 'round and a scientist said it was marsh gas
Spiro came and made a speech about raising the Mars tax
The Vatican said, "Woe, the lord has come"
Hollywood rushed out an epic film
And Ronnie the popular said it was a communist plot

Oh, the newspapers came and made Jody a national hero

Walter and Eric said they'd put him on a network TV show
The White House said, "Put the thing in the blue room"
The Vatican said, "No, it belongs to Rome"
And Jody said, it's mine but you can have it for seventeen million

Oh, it came out of the sky, landed just a little south of Moline
Jody fell out of his tractor, couldn't believe what he seen
Laid on the ground a shakin', fearin' for his life
Then he ran all the way to town screamin' it came out of the sky

  • Jennifur Sun from RamonaI saw a comment on Youtube last year that this song was about someone who lost an amp or something like that out of a plane. never could get the person to comment back to hear the whole story. It has become my very FAV CCR tune they ever recorded.
  • Brian from Los Angeles, Ca"Walter and Eric said they'd put him on in their TV show." Refers to legendary newsmen of the time Walter Cronkite and Eric Sevareid. If you've not heard of them, it's because you watch TMZ.
  • Jason from Thousand Oaks, CaThere's a reference in the song to Nixon VP Spiro T. Agnew, "Spiro came and made a speach about raising the Mars tax". Nixon appointed Agnew head of the National Aeronautics and Space Council. After Agnew publicly advocated a space shot to Mars, it was explained to him that there was no money for a project of that magnitude. There's also a reference to Ronald Reagan, "Ronnie the popular say's it was a communist plot". Reagan was the Governer of California at the time, and his transition from acting to politics is where the "popular" sentiment comes from.
