Calling out around the world, are you ready for a brand-new beat?
Summer's here and the time is right for dancing in the street
They're dancing in Chicago - dancing in the street
Down in New Orleans - dancing in the street
In New York City - dancing in the street
All we need is music, sweet music, there'll be music everywhere

There'll be swinging and swaying and records playing
    Dancing in the street
It doesn't matter what you wear just as long as you are there
So come on, every guy grab a girl, everywhere around the world
They'll be dancing, they're dancing in the street, dancing in the street

This is an invitation across the nation, a chance for folks to meet
There'll be laughing and singing and music swinging
    Dancing in the street
Philadelphia P. A. - dancing in the street
Baltimore and D.C., now - dancing in the street
Don't forget the Motor City - dancing in the street
On the streets of Brazil - dancing in the street
Back in the USSR - dancing in the street
Don't matter where you are - dancing in the street
All we need is music, sweet music, there'll be music everywhere

There'll be swinging and swaying and records playing
    Dancing in the street
It doesn't matter what you wear just as long as you are there
So come on, every guy grab a girl, everywhere around the world
They'll be dancing, they're dancing in the street, dancing in the street

Way down in L. A., everyday dancing in the street
    Dancing in the street
Across in China, too, me and you dancing in the street
    Dancing in the street
Don't you know they'll be dancing, dancing in the street
    Dancing in the street
Don't you know they'll be dancing, dancing in the street

  • Gudni from IcelandThe Kinks recorded this great song on their (almost) first album, Kinda Kinks. Great recording.
  • Randy from Fayettevile, ArIt's a great song. I remember it from "back then." Although, every time I heard it on the radio back then I used to think how much better the original was (Martha & The Vandellas). OK, Bowie and Jagger did a very good job. It's just that I prefer the Motown classic.
  • Karen from Manchester, NhUm, I belive the opening is "OK, TOKYO..." not "talk to you".
  • Jake from Burke, VaVan Halen also covered "Dancing In The Street" on their album "Diver Down." David Lee Roth was their lead singer at the time.
  • Ricardo from Mexico, MexicoGreat song!!! also was used by Pepsi
