Float On

Album: Good News For People Who Love Bad News (2004)
Charted: 46 68
  • I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well, he just drove off - sometimes life's okay
I ran my mouth off a bit too much, ah what did I say?
Well, you just laughed it off and it was all okay

And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on anyway, well

A fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam
It was worth it just to learn some sleight of hand
Bad news comes, don't you worry even when it lands
Good news will work it way to all them plans
We both got fired on, exactly, the same day
Well, we'll float on, good news is on the way

And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on alright

    Already we'll all float on
Now don't you worry we'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on alright
Don't worry we'll all float on

    Alright, Already
And we'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on alright
Don't worry even if things end up a bit
Too heavy we'll all float on alright

Already, we'll all float on alright
Already, we'll all float on okay
Don't worry, even if things get heavy
    We'll all float on alright

    Already, we'll all float on
Now don't you worry, we'll all float on
We'll all float on Writer/s: Dann Gallucci, Eric Judy, Isaac Brock

  • Kelly from Alberta CanadaGreg from Atlanta, Ga response to your comment that it seems every song almost sounds the same well... it's true there only so many chords on a guitar. There a a few YouTube videos about 10 songs that have the same guitar chords. Don't know when you posted this but it's the year 2021 couple years back a band called twenty one pilots had a hit song called "stressed out" one line "I wish I could come up with some new guitar chords" check out the YouTube about 10 songs.... & stressed out video.
  • Dan from Bloomington, IlThis song made me know what modest mouse was, now it's my favorite band. When I heard this song compared to other songs by them, I was a bit confused because of how different the theme is from all their other songs
  • Caitlyn from Royersford, PaHe said "I smell teen spirit".HeHehe!
  • Greg from Price, UtOne of the more inventive videos of the last 10 years.
  • Greg from Atlanta, GaI just listened to both U2's song and this one, and I really don't see that strong of a connection. Do you realize that most every pop song is structured basically the same way? The drum beat is different, the bass plays a much bigger song in this song than Sunday Bloody Sunday, and the guitar is different...so no, it's not a rip off. They just have a sort of similar feel.
  • Billy Bob from Dc, DcRe: Comment by Bert- Pueblo, NM

"Anyone else think that this song is a ripoff to "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2. Listen to them both. The entire sound/song structure is taken right from u2"

THANK YOU!!! Finally, I found someone else who thinks the same. I tell people that I think Float On sounds like a lame high school garage band trying to play "Sunday Bloody Sunday". Jeez! Modest Mouse sucks!!
  • Kane from Wytheville, VaDAMN JAMACIANSS!!!!!!!!
  • Lolo Brown from Gertrude, Bahamasgod i love this song to death. the first time i ever heard it, i was immediately hooked. so many people i know hate it because the melody but if they ever listened to the lyrics....my god, this song makes me feel. its like, screw what has happnend to you in the past because its gonna be alright! finally! everything will be alright! and the album title is amazing" good news for people who love bad news" i love it, this song is a punch to the face of pessimists and people who put other people down. rock on modest mouse!
  • Brad from Gaffney, ScI've heard another song that doesn't particularly sound like this one but most of the lyrics appear to be the same. . .it had an '80s sound to it too. It used to play at the grocery store I worked at over the summer. I told a friend about it and he finally heard it, oddly enough, at a different grocery store (different chain, too). Has anybody else ever heard this song? Is this a very '80s sounding cover I've missed, or did Modest Mouse get the lyrics for this song from an obscure '80s song?
  • Eric from Corunna, MiIt really sucks to hear Goldspot bastardize this song.
  • Bert from Pueblo, NmAnyone else think that this song is a ripoff to "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2. Listen to them both. The entire sound/song structure is taken right from u2
  • Mykal from Manteca, Ca"A fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam..." an obvious reference to "Miss Cleo"
  • Delilah from Baltimore, MdThis is a really cool song. It is probably their most overplayed though. One of the good things about modest mouse is that they aren't one of those bands that are like a trend or something. I love the sort of calm sound this song has. It sounds reassuring in a way that makes it sound like someone's trying to just calmly let you know everything's going to be okay and work out in the end. I'm not sure if that's what was the intended meaning of the song but that's what i get out of it and in my opinion the meaning of a song can be whatever you make it out to be.
  • Jake from San Fran, CaIts a good song. I hope it doesn't turn into Modest Mouses "I Smell Teen Spirt".
  • Evan from Flower Mound, TxIssac Brock said that he hated the media attention that "float on" receives and he would like Modest Mouse to stay as more of a low-key off-camera band.
  • Marcus from Claremore, OkI love this song. sadly i live in the midwest, so i never really had a chance of knowing who modest mouse was until float on came out. as soon as i heard that song i bought every modest mouse cd i could get my hands on. i now own 8 MM cds and Sharpen your teeth (ugly casanova) i love this band and i owe it all to float on
  • Keith from Kyle, Txthis song isn't emo, lol! and furthermore, all I can think about after listening to this song is to be careful of those fake Jamaicans...
  • Izzie from Lala, Hilast summer for me was so defined by music and very certain places. whenever im in my basement, the feel and smell of it brings me straight back to last summer, when i spent lots of time there. same with this certain sandwhich shop. and whenever i hear certain songs.... they just stick out in my mind and remind me of last summer so much. its a weird feeling. this song is one of them. it was so popular.... and whenever i hear it im remeinded of summer '04! it was a pretty weird summer.... anyways. i love this sogn and the music video makes me wanna cry!
  • Owen from River Forest, IlTo really enjoy the Mouse, although "Good News..." is very good, you have to listen to their older stuff. "Lonsome Crowded West" "The Moon and Antartica" and " Sad Sappy Sucker" are some of their best CD's. Also, you should listen to the bands that influenced them like "The Pixies" and "Built to Spill" because if it wernt for them, the Mouse wouldnt be where they are today.
  • Claire from Oak Ridge, TnIt's hard enough to think about where lamb chops come from without this video!
  • Scott from Louisville,ky.What a great song! Especially for those of us who like Issac Brock, have seen some darker days. It's very inspirational, and a reminder that things are okay, and life's not that bad!
    -Scott, Louisville,Ky.
  • Veronica from Fowler, Cathose poor, poor sheep.. OH THE HUMANITY!!!
  • Jeff from Barrington, IlAt the end of the video the sheep look through a crack in the door that they're going through and see that the other sheep are alive, which plays into the theme of the song.
  • Diln from Nottellin, ChinaWell the music video has sheep going to a slaughterhouse. the best thing that could happen to them is that when they die they float on to heaven i guess
