  • Head underwater
    And you tell me
To breathe easy for a while
The breathing gets harder, even I know that
Made room for me it's too soon to see
If I'm happy in your hands
I'm unusually hard to hold onto

    Blank stares at blank pages
No easy way to say this
You mean well, but you make this hard on me

I'm not gonna write you a love song
    'Cause you asked for it
    'Cause you need one
You see, I'm not gonna write you a love song
'Cause you tell me it's make or breaking this
    If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leavin'
    I'ma need a better reason
To write you a love song today
    (Yeah) today, yeah

    I learned the hard way
    That they all say
    Things you wanna hear
My heavy heart sinks deep down under
    You and your twisted words
    Your help just hurts
You are not what I thought you were
    Hello to high and dry

    Convinced me to please you
Made me think that I need this too
I'm trying to let you hear me as I am

I'm not gonna write you a love song
    'Cause you asked for it
    'Cause you need one
You see, I'm not gonna write you a love song
'Cause you tell me it's make or breaking this
    If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leavin'
    I'ma need a better reason
To write you a love song today

    Promise me
That you'll leave the light on
    To help me see
    With daylight, my guide, gone
    'Cause I believe there's a way
You can love me because I say

    I won't write you a love song
    'Cause you asked for it
    'Cause you need one
You see, I'm not gonna write you a love song
'Cause you tell me it's make or breaking this
Is that why you wanted a love song?
    'Cause you asked for it
    'Cause you need one
You see, I'm not gonna write you a love song
'Cause you tell me it's make or breaking this
    If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If your heart is nowhere in it
    I don't want it for a minute
Babe, I'll walk the seven seas when I believe that
There's a reason to write you a love song today
Today, (yeah) yeah Writer/s: Sara Bareilles

  • Sonya from UsaHey folks, you do know this really isn't a love song don't you? It's actually a middle finger to the record producer. They wanted a love song so this is what she wrote for them. She's Boss.
  • John Terri from NaivashaI love Sarah
  • John from Eugene, OrAt first I thought that Gavin DeGraw wrote this song but Sara did. According to Wiki this song was on the Billboard Hot 100 for Fifty-Four (54) weeks on the the Hot 100. The RIAA has certified that it has now reached triple Platinum status. Bear in mind that the same Wiki article also said that the recording was released in 2004 and recorded in 2007! Nice trick. I know it was available for free on iTunes by June of 2007 and then the single (and her album) started to climb up the charts until it reached #4. In 2009 "Love Song" was nominated for the Grammy's Song of the Year (2008) which is a music industry award; in other words, her musical peers thought she was the best songwriter of the year! That means something in my book. JSJR 7302011
  • Brian from Boston, MaI think Sara is very sexy
  • Michelle from Manchester, NhCompletely relateable. I think this song perfectly describes most of my ex boyfriends. Love this song!
  • Theresa from Murfreesboro, TnHer voice is just wicked cool.
  • Lizard from Texas, --GO SARA!!!!!
seriously people, find a better music video!!!!
    PLEASE!!!!!!
  • Stephanie from Wakefield, MaI love this song! The music video is Awsome! Hi Sara! LULAS! This is one of my favorite songs in the world! Hi Gina!
  • Laurie from Rathernotsay, NyI adore Sara and have been listening to her for years. My favorite song is Gravity--it's definitely better than either of the songs that have been released, IMHO. But I think several of her songs are really wonderful and enjoyed listening to her self-produced CD very much. Little Voice has several of those songs, but they are more "acoustic" on her self-produced CD.
  • Brittany from Florissant, Moi think bottle it up is a better song. this one is extremely over played and annoying.
  • Lauren from Fenton, MiFor Sure LOL
  • Lauren from Fenton, MiWho would ever ask her to write them a love song other then her gay uncle
  • Rebecca from Plant City, Fli never knew that rock on sara
  • Clubber Lange from Ocean Gate, NjEven with the big nose, i would still do it with this chick...Good voice too...
  • Wendy from Downingtown, PaAshley Simpson! Ugh She can't carry a tune like Sara!! Listen to the rest of "Little Voice" -- just beautiful.
  • Kami from New York City, NyWhen I first heard this song, I thought it was by ashley simpson. I love all songs by sara bareilles now. I also like fairytale and bottle it up
  • Tera from Presque Isle, Mecool, i never would have thought of that.
