Songfacts®:

  • Country singer Abbey Cone wrote this cut from her debut EP, Hate Me, with her co-producer Nathan Spicer and Nashville scribe Jessie Jo Dillon ("10,000 Hours"). It's about risking your heart for a chance at true love.

Cone elaborated in a Songfacts track by track: "'The One' is about realizing you've found true love. No matter how it ends, whether that's a breakup or marriage, you know they'll leave a mark forever. It's about struggling to accept an unknown future while feeling completely satisfied with where you're at in the moment."
  • Cone, who grew up in Argyle, Texas, before relocating to Nashville as a teen, released her debut single, "Rhinestone Ring," in 2021.
