Songfacts®:

  • The origins of this track lie in a demo recorded by Beady Eye member Andy Bell with a mutual friend of his and Adam Ant's. The track was passed onto Ant without Bell's knowledge, who attempted to block its inclusion on Gunner's Daughter. Ant eventually rerecorded the song for the final release with two members of his live band.
  • This was released as the first single from the Gunner's Daughter album. Mojo magazine asked Ant why he chose such a bluesy number as his comeback single. He replied: "Because it was the last thing people would've been expecting from me, a swampy, slidey Tennessee blues. With an Ants sounding chant running through it. It's not the most instantaneous song I've got, but it's got that autobiographical element."
  • The song title is a reference to the side effects of the medication Ant took for his bipolar condition. He told Mojo magazine: "That's what I became. Some of the medication they had me going through had quite disastrous effects on me."
