Songfacts®:

  • Running to around four minutes twenty seconds, the penultimate track on Al's debut album, this guitar instrumental has a distinctly Russian flavor which is reflected in its name. Although it does not appear on the unofficial three volume release Oceans Of Delphi, its genesis is explained there.

After performing "Zero She Flies," Al explained to his audience that he broke so many strings in concert that he wrote a song for when he broke a string. He went on to say that "Ivich" - which he does not mention by name on the track - is played entirely on the bass string. This is not quite true, but it does include some nifty work at the end where he plays on the harmonics.
  • The name appears to come from Alexander Solzhenitsyn's One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich; Al is a big Solzhenitsyn fan. >>
