Songfacts®:

  • Alan Walker is an EDM producer and DJ who was born in Northampton, England and raised in Bergen, Norway.
  • The original version of this song was an instrumental titled "Fade," which was first released on YouTube in 2014, and got Walker a contract with the NoCopyrightSounds label.
  • After signing with Sony Music Sweden, Walker released the vocal version "Faded" with additional acoustic instruments on December 4, 2015. It features the voice of Norwegian singer-songwriter Iselin Solheim. The song was a hit throughout Europe, topping several charts including those in Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
  • Alan Walker wrote in a Genius attribution: "I would describe 'Faded' as a happy yet emotional song, appropriate for both sad and/or uplifting occasions. It's about searching for someone, something or somewhere lost. Or just feeling lost! One of the things I like the most about its lyrics is that the meaning can be interpreted freely by the listener."
  • Alan Walker debuted the song live along with Iselin Solheim on March 1, 2016 at the X Games Oslo 2016. The performance was aired live on Norwegian television.
  • The music video was filmed in Estonia and stars Shahab Salehi (Leo) as a young man scouting a disaster area for possible remaining life or food.
  • Alan Walker explained the evolution of the song to Pop Crush: "The track started off as a tropical house track, but later on I added an electro house drop. That was pretty much the beginning of 'Fade.' I found out that it didn't work as a tropical house + electro house track, so I decided to make it a complete electro track. This is where I got inspired by Ahrix's track "Nova" and K-391's melodic style, which helped me put together the sounds and melodies.

Later on when I signed with Sony, we wanted to re-release 'Fade' as 'Faded' with a brand new mix and with vocals by Iselin Solheim. I think Iselin was the first person who sung demo vocals for 'Faded.' And it worked out great! The way I got in touch with Iselin was through a guy that I work with in the studio."
