Errol Flynn

Songfacts®:

  • In spite of the title, this is not a song about Errol Flynn but another actor, David Bruce, who starred with Flynn in the 1940 film Sante Fe Trail. Flynn died aged only 50; David Bruce did not die quite so young, but 62 is not a great age.

Amanda McBroom is the daughter of David Bruce, and she wrote this intensely personal song about her father. Although it is factually accurate, he did die literally with his boots on, and overindulgence in alcohol did contribute to his early death, the latter being an occupational hazard for anyone in and around showbiz, including musicians, she wrote it before reaching the age of 62. >>
