Songfacts®:

  • This is one of two new songs and the title track of Amy MacDonald's greatest hits collection, Woman Of The World: The Best Of Amy Macdonald 2007-2018.
  • Amy MacDonald wrote the song for the British live action Disney film Patrick. The Scottish singer told BBC Music reporter Mark Savage that she saw a lot of parallels between the lead character and herself as both are independent and strong females.

MacDonald added that having been a full-time musician since her late teens she's "had to learn to be strong and independent and stand my ground." So she just thought about herself when she wrote the song: "It's something I think speaks to so many girls and women, especially with everything that's gone on in the past few years."
  • The song was produced by Richard "Biff" Stannard. He is a member of the Biffco music production and songwriting team that were largely responsible for the rise of the Spice Girls.

MacDonald never actually got to meet Stannard. She explained: "The funny thing is – usually producers want you to re-record vocals, but he was happy with my demo. So this song hasn't even had one take; it's like half of a take pieced together."
