Songfacts®:

  • Anna Atkinson wrote this song while snowshoeing in Vancouver. It was the first time she ever snowshoed and it was during a dark, stressful point in her life when she had forgotten how to enjoy herself. During the snowshoe, she felt a happiness and presence in the moment-at-hand for the first time in months. She has called it the most powerful healing experienced of her young adulthood.

During this ecstatic moment she heard a voice asking her, "Why shouldn't you?" She thought of it as an older version of herself trying to reach out to her younger, depressed and confused self.
