Songfacts®:

  • "Stuck With U" is a joint song inspired by the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic. It hinges on how many lovers found themselves early in their relationship self-isolating together. For Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber, spending 24 hours a day for weeks on end with their romantic interests is an enticing prospect.

There's nowhere we need to be, no, no, no
I'ma get to know you better
    Kinda hope we're here forever

Grande and Bieber are cherishing being stuck with their sweethearts and spending so much quality time together.
  • According to Bieber, "Stuck With U" is "the prom song for everyone who can't go to prom now."
  • Grande and Bieber wrote this lockdown anthem with:

Songwriter Whitney Phillips, whose resumé also includes NeedtoBreathe's "Happiness," Steve Aoki's "Delirious (Boneless)" and Christina Aguilera's "Sick Of Sittin'."

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Skyler Stonestreet, who was the first unsigned artist to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone. Her other songwriting credits include The Chainsmokers' "Kanye" and Dua Lipa's "IDGAF."

Grande and Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun. The music executive discovered Bieber when he accidentally clicked on one of his videos on YouTube. He doesn't normally get involved in songwriting but did help pen the Canadian's 2015 track "Purpose."

Producer Freddy Wexler, whose other credits include Selena Gomez' "Slow Down"and Marshemello and Halsey's "Be Kind."

Gian Stone, who also solely produced the track. The song is Stone's second Hot 100 #1 on his resume, after Maroon 5's "Girls Like You" featuring Cardi B, in 2018.
  • Grande and Bieber are good friends and have linked up before. The "Thank U, Next" singer featured on the Canadian pop star's remix of his 2015 single "What Do You Mean?" and the two artists took the stage together at Coachella 2019, when Bieber first teased his long-awaited fifth album.
  • All net proceeds from the sentimental song will benefit the First Responders Children's Foundation and SB Projects, an organization founded by Scooter Braun. It will help fund grants and scholarships for children of the first responders caught up in the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The DIY music video, self-shot by Grande and Bieber, gives glimpses into the singer's at-home lockdown life. In between there are shots sent in by fans of them dancing, kissing, and spending time with their pets. Interspersed are clips of various celebrity pals quarantining, including Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Demi Lovato, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Gwyneth Paltrow, 2 Chainz, Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry, Jaden Smith, Chance the Rapper, Lil Dicky and Michael Bublé and his family. Hailey Bieber also makes an appearance, as does Grande's quarantine partner luxury real estate agent Dalton Gomez.
  • Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Whitney Phillips, Skyler Stonestreet, Freddy Wexler, and Gian Stone wrote the initial version of "Stuck With U" during an April 3, 2020 remote Zoom session. "It really took us just sitting in front of our computers in our pajamas to write something that would go #1," Phillips told Billboard.

After Wexler sent the demo to Scooter Braun, Grande and Bieber picked up the song immediately. "Within the week, Ariana was sending us edits," Phillips recalled. "Justin was doing the same."
  • This won for Best Collaboration and for Best Music Video From Home at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. The latter category was introduced at this ceremony to honor videos produced from home during the coronavirus pandemic.
