Its release coincided with the launch of the Billboard Twitter Real-Time Charts and the song quickly rocketed to #1 on the new Trending 140 tally. "It feels amazing to not only release my first project, to have my first EP come out, but to have my song 'Shadow' reach #1 on the chart," said Austin to Billboard magazine.
  • Austin sung the tune during a Q&A and performance at Paramount Hotel's Diamond Horseshoe in New York. He described it as a "nice, slow song that I think girls would like to listen to."
