Songfacts®:

  • "Never Leave" is a song about a relationship on its last legs. Bailey Zimmerman is fighting to keep their romance alive and begs his girlfriend to do the same. He implores her not to leave him, as despite all the difficulties, he still loves her.
  • "Never Leave" is based on the same relationship Zimmerman sang about on "Rock And A Hard Place" and "Where It Ends." He penned the song around the same time as "Rock And A Hard Place" when he was still striving to keep their love alive. "Where It Ends" came later, when Zimmerman had reached the end of his tether and acknowledged he couldn't fix the relationship.
  • Zimmerman wrote "Never Leave" with Gavin Lucas, Chris Sligh, Mary Kutter, and his producer, Austin Shawn. Lucas also helped him write his breakthrough single, "Fall In Love."

"I was in a pretty weird part of a relationship at the time, and just wanted to write something that expressed how I felt about the situation," Zimmerman said. "When I came into the room with Gavin Lucas, Mary Kutter and my man Chris Sligh, I knew I could be really honest!"
  • Shawn played the piano, drums, and bass guitar. The other musicians are Tim Galloway (electric and acoustic guitar) and Kurt Ozan (pedal steel guitar).
