Songfacts®:

  • Here, Becky G trades verses with corridos tumbados singer Peso Pluma. The two portray star-crossed lovers who are going through a breakup.
  • Peso Pluma is a Mexican rapper and songwriter from Guadalajara, Mexico, known for his unique blend of regional Mexican and hip-hop music. He scored his first record deal with Prajin Records in 2020 and within a year he dropped 10 tracks on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart, including four bangers that made it to the Top 10: "AMG" with Natanael Cano and Gabito Ballesteros, "PRC" also with Cano, his slowed-down sierreño track "Por Las Noches," and "Ella Baila Sola" with Eslabon Armado.
  • Fun fact: In Portuguese, "Peso-pluma" means "lightweight" or "featherweight." Peso Pluma adopted his name after a conversation with boxer Marco Antonio Barrera, who noticed that most of his musicians were thin, a characteristic common in the featherweight boxing category.
  • In the song, Becky G and Peso Pluma messed up their romance big time, but still can't shake each other. They both know it's a lost cause and can't be fixed. But Becky G won't let that get her down and is looking ahead to better days. She sings (translated into English):

I will remember you forever in my life, baby
And even though I know I'll never be able to see you again
And for that I love you, baby

Not even a fancy Chanel bag could save their love. Pluma snarls over a raw, acoustic beat (translated into English).

I took you to Chanel, we shopped at Cartier.
And one day she left me
To one day never to return
  • Becky G released the corridos tumbados song on March 30, 2023. It is her first single from an all-regional Mexicano album.
  • Ricky Alvarez (Ariana Grande, Victoria Monet, Sinead Harnett) directed the fiery video. Full of vibrant colors, it finds Becky G and Peso Pluma in Los Angeles and showcases their Mexican roots.
  • Becky G hadn't planned to collaborate with Peso Pluma. Their meeting at the studio was just to introduce themselves to each other. "Then Edgar [Barrera] whips out a guitar, and next thing you know, we wrote ["Chanel"] in 45 minutes, así de la nada (just like that out of nowhere)," she told Billboard. "It was instant chemistry between Peso and I."
