Songfacts®:

  • This is a song about a man who loves a woman so much, he wants to marry her. "You and I should be one," he tells her. The Bee Gees have a history of putting it all out there in their love songs. "Love You Inside Out" and "Too Much Heaven" are other examples.
  • In the disco era, the Bee Gees carpet bombed the airwaves with hit singles, so when the inevitable backlash came in 1979, they were no longer welcome. They kept on writing hits for other artists, but their own singles didn't get very far until 1987, when "You Win Again" became a huge hit across Europe. America, though, was still cold to the group, and the song stalled at #75. It was surprising, then, when "One" reached #7, giving the group a comeback hit in that country. They didn't return to the Top 40 until 1997, when "Alone" hit #28. >>>

  • Mitchell from Liverpool, UkI've always found this song to remind me of Jive Talkin', musically and rhythmically. Became their first Top 40 hit in a decade, but was also their last Top 10 hit in the US.
