That Girl Made a Fool Out of Me

Album: Not released on an album (1991)

Songfacts®:

  • This was the first song that Blake Shelton ever wrote. The teenage Blake penned the tune one night after finding out a girl he fancied had a thing for another guy named "Bird."

Shelton recalled he was on the phone with the girl when she was informed there was another call waiting. "She said, 'It's Bird, oh my God I think he's gonna ask me to the prom!'"

"I couldn't believe it. I thought she liked me. Like, 'That was the only reason I was even on the phone with you!'" he recalled.

After Shelton hung up, he picked up his guitar and wrote this song using the only four guitar chords he knew at the time.
