Songfacts®:

  • Blake Shelton first met Gwen Stefani when both singers worked as judges on NBC's The Voice. They started dating in 2015 and wed on July 3, 2021 at the country star's Oklahoma farm. Shelton co-wrote this song with Craig Wiseman as his marriage vows for the ceremony.
  • Shelton fills this altar serenade with words of love and affirmation. The country star tells Stefani she's saved his heart and he promises her that his love is so great, together they can "reach the stars."
  • Stefani didn't expect Shelton to sing his vows, so he wasn't nervous. His only worry was breaking the barstool they gave him to sit on.
  • Though the love ballad was a surprise to Shelton's bride, she'd put the seeds of the idea into his head. "Gwen is always, constantly on my ass about, I should be writing more songs, 'How come you don't write more songs,'" he shared on Late Night With Seth Meyers. "I have gotten lazy about it over the years. So I decided I'll step up and come up with something, so I did."
  • "We Can Reach the Stars" is one of four new songs on the deluxe version of Body Language. Shelton released it as a single from the album on November 5, 2021.
