Songfacts®:

  • This song about drug addiction reached #2 on the UK Rock Chart. According to Bullet For My Valentine lead singer Matthew Tuck, the song explores how "people think the person who has the addiction is the victim; no one ever thinks about the people who are helping them and trying to get them out and then pushed aside. So 'The Last Fight' is about how it's your last chance, I keep trying to help you and you keep trying to push me away. F--k You. This is the last fight I'm going to do for you."
  • Matt Tuck explained the story behind the song to Kerrang! "The concept is based on giving up on someone who doesn't believe in themselves, and won't help themselves," he said. "Around the time we had a couple of friends who were having issues and hard times with drugs and addiction problems, and it just didn't seem that they were willing to help themselves, while everyone was trying to help them."

"The last fight in the song isn't a physical thing," Tuck added. "It's about reaching that point where you're saying, 'This is it, there's one last time that I'll reach out and help you, but after that you're on your own.'"
  • The video takes a different tack as it consists of a physical fight in a poorly lit room. Tuck explained: "The video is more about someone fighting with himself, so there's that metaphor there, too, and obviously seeing these guys slug it out on screen looks good!"
