Songfacts®:

  • "Wasted Youth" is a collaboration between London-based singer-songwriter Cat Burns and Northamptonshire producer Goddard. They previously teamed up for the 2022 remix of Burns' single "Go."
  • Cat Burns is stung with the realization that her precious youth was wasted on a love that wasn't worth it. Beneath the pain lies a simmering bitterness towards her past love for holding her back from living life to the fullest.

"It's a song about a relationship coming to a bitter end," explained Burns, "and feeling like you've missed out on so much of your youth because of that person – and having resentment towards them because of it."
  • Goddard's energetic drum and bass production provides a stark contrast to Cat Burns' soulful vocals. This blend creates a soundscape that's both emotionally charged and dancefloor ready.
  • Goddard and Burns wrote "Wasted Youth" with Jonny Coffer, Kesi Dryden, Piers Aggett, and Simon Aldred.

English songwriter and record producer Jonny Coffer has also worked with Naughty Boy ("La La La"), Beyoncé ("Runnin' (Lose It All)") and Miley Cyrus ("Muddy Feet").

Kesi Dryden and Piers Aggett are both members of the British drum and bass band Rudimental.

Professional songwriter Simon Aldred got his start leading the folk-rock band Cherry Ghost. Aldred has since carved out a career as a songwriter for other artists, including several of Liam Gallagher's tracks. He also provided vocals for Avicii's 2015 single "Waiting for Love."
