Songfacts®:

  • This was written by British born songwriters Michael Leeson and Peter Vale, who also wrote "One Man Woman" for Sheena Easton, "So Near To Christmas" for Alvin Stardust, "Roses" for Haywoode and "My One Temptation" for Mica Paris.
  • This sold over 2 million copies and reached #1 in 16 countries.
  • Charles & Eddie performed this at Bill Clinton's inaugural ball in 1993, which was ironic given Bill Clinton's later lie about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.
  • Charles & Eddie are the American duo of Charles Pettigrew (who died of cancer in 2001 at age 37) and Eddie Chacon. The story goes that they first met on a New York subway train when Chacon was clutching a copy of Marvin Gaye's Trouble Man. Impressed, Pettigrew struck up a conversation with him and the pair later started performing together.

  • Space from UsaI came here to see what the real answer is to the song title question. Eddie claims it to be oh yeah in the lyrics.

Very soulful music, even the newer album that Eddie pit put a few years ago. God bless.

I somehow missed this when it came out initially and if it weren't for the movie "The Comedian" I'd missed it entirely. It's played during the ending credits, I believe. I immediately ran to research the song and downloaded it.
