Songfacts®:

  • This is a gospel-inspired R&B track in which Chlöe sings about turning to prayer to erase the hurt and anger she feels after a romantic mistake.

Maybe I should go and take it to church
And wash it away 'cause I want that ni--a to hurt
But I'ma just pray it away before I give him what he deserves first

Chloe has wasted her time and energy on her no-good boyfriend. The rage bubbling up inside her will become overwhelming, forcing her to seek violent revenge unless she turns to God.
  • "Pray It Away" is a joyful blend of soulful R&B and angry outbursts. Chloe co-wrote and co-produced the song with SZA collaborator ThankGod4Cody, singer-songwriter Jozzy (Beyonce's, "Virgo's Groove," SZA's "Low"), Toronto/Barbados producer Pitt the Kid (Pop Smoke's "Creature," Young Thug's Boy Back) and Eric Moore. ThankGod4Cody and Pitt the Kid also produced the song with ECassshh and Puredandyy.
  • Chloe released "Pray It Away" as her fifth solo single and lead single from her debut album, In Pieces. Because its sound had evolved, the singer scrapped her four previous singles - "Have Mercy," "Treat Me," "Surprise", and "For The Night" – from the record.
