Songfacts®:

  • Perri closes her Head Or Heart album with this uplifting track. The song was written by Perri for her headlining performance on three California shows with To Write Love On Your Arms, a non-profit organization which aims to present hope for people struggling with addiction, self-injury and thoughts of suicide. "I remember sitting in my house and I said, 'I have to make a show that is fresh. I just came off touring and a lot of the people in the audience came to my shows so I have to make something special for them,'" she recalled to Radio.com. "Not to mention, I had so many of the issues this organization deals with as a teenager and as a young women and that I continue to deal with daily. I felt very, very connected emotionally to this topic."
  • Perri never intended this to be on Hand Or Heart. "I wrote this song just for these kids and had no idea it would make the album at all. I go and do this show and it was as magical as I've ever dreamed it to be, even better," she said. "I had goosebumps and there were people crying and it was this really, really special moment."

Perri added: "It went 'Jar of Hearts' crazy where people were getting tattoos of the lyrics. It's the album closer. I had a British children's choir. It's exactly what I hoped it would be, the way it came out. It has one of those genuine stories for me. It was meant to be on this album. It was just bigger than me. It became a part of my life."
