Songfacts®:

  • Back in 2017, Dave dropped a freestyle "My 19th birthday," which appeared as the outro on his Game Over EP. The nearly 9-minute track found him exploring his life as a Black man in London. Five years later, Dave surprise-released its sequel, "My 24th Birthday."
  • Much like "My 19th birthday," this is an introspective freestyle. "My 24th Birthday" finds the rapper in a ruminative, thankful mood as he reflects on his musical journey and the upsides and downsides of his success. Dave is grateful he can afford to buy his mom a house and for close friends like Drake and Stormzy. The rap star laments the loss of innocence he had when younger and the busy schedule he now has to maintain.
  • Dave closes out the track by admitting that even at 24 he's still spiritually a baby in the eyes of the Lord. He considers his biggest achievement so far to be giving his mom the gift of travel. They visited 27 countries together in nine months.
  • Dave wrote and produced "My 24th Birthday." He released the song on June 24, 2022, three weeks after his actual 24th birthday on June 5th.
