Songfacts®:

  • Here, Los Angeles-based German singer-songwriter Kim Petras joins David Guetta to deliver nostalgic vocals about the innocence of youth. Over Guetta's house pianos and an insistent German techno beat, Petras waxes lyrical about the good old days when "life was so wonderful" and "everything was so beautiful." Now, it's all so different.
  • The song interpolates British rock band Supertramp's 1979 song "The Logical Song." It also takes inspiration from German dance band Scooter's 2001 techno version of "The Logical Song," which was a hit across Europe.
  • Released on November 10, 2023, "When We Were Young (The Logical Song)" follows a similar recipe to Guetta's 2022 song with Bebe Rexha, "I'm Good (Blue)" and 2023 release with Anne-Marie, "Baby Don't Hurt Me." All three tunes sample a 20th century hit with new verses sung by female artists.
  • Guetta co-wrote "When We Were Young (The Logical Song)" with Nick Long, who's also written for Machine Gun Kelly and Blink-182. Selena Gomez and Ava Max songwriter Madison Love are also co-writers along with Swedish producer T.I Jakke, who has collaborated with Guetta on numerous occasions. Supertramp's Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies also get writing credits.
